If you are reading this than you most likely fell for the shameless plug that I put into this year's Christmas card and actually typed in the link to this ancient blog. Congratulations! Here are the answers to this year's statements--with a little more context!
Literally danced a hole in the sole of their boots! A. Aaron! Not only does this 6'11" son of ours play amazing college basketball--he has also really taken to country swing this past year. (To all the tall and heavier girls out there he is a dream as there is finally someone tall and strong enough to lift and flip them!) His cowboy boots took a beating with all his dancing!
Grew an astonishing 2” in one month! E. Grandbaby #2! Grown a lot in her first month of life! Little blondie like her mom--precious as can be!
Won CA district championship with their team! L. Child #6 and her soccer team had a great season and won their district!! Our favorite midfielder for sure! She also got braces and is almost a teenager 😢
Researched, wrote, recorded, and produced a freakin’ amazing podcast! H. Eden has done a phenomenal job creating "Roots of the Mighty Oaks" for BYU-I. Check it out on Spotify! She managed this all while finishing up school, work, and caring for hubby and baby daughter, Grandbaby #1. She graduates from BYU-I with a BA in Communications next week.
Officially became a duck! C. Kaylee and hubby Cody moved from Houston, TX to Eugene, OR earlier this year and Kaylee is pursuing a degree in Landscape Architecture from University of Oregon. They are loving their new area, ward, and especially their new baby, too!
Held at gunpoint in an attempted robbery! (Thankfully is okay!) F. Elder (Garrett) Bliss has been out on his mission for 15 months now. The robbery at gunpoint was definitely scary but he and his two companions had followed mission rules and were therefore safe (not out after dark, carry a fake phone and very little money which is usually kept right near their underwear). We are grateful he was kept safe and even more grateful to hear all about his amazing opportunities for service and growth as he serves the Lord in the Argentina Buenos Aires West Mission.
After being vegetarian for 12 years, crossed over and ate meat! J. Child #5! What an unexpected surprise when he voluntarily ate a piece of pepperoni pizza and an even bigger surprise when he asked for part of mom's hamburger patty and ate it! Will he venture out and try more new foods? Not sure, but it was exciting to see him try things on his own. His first year of high school has been good and he is comfortable in his class with his fellow special students.
Reigning champ at acquiring free stuff (hundreds of dollars worth!) D. Cody stays busy with work, master's degree, and scoring lots of free stuff--including baby crib, weeks of diapers and creams, food, and other loads of good stuff--most of it brand new!!
Successfully met none of their 2025 goals! A. Kiersten tried and failed. Oh well, we've got next year! Disclaimer: even though none of her set goals were met she still stayed busy and tried to do good!
Gained 10-12 pounds this year–per doctor’s orders! I. Grandbaby #1 has been growing like a 9-month-old baby should. We love her fuzzy redhead and cherub cheeks and little emerging personality!
Put in the most study hours of any family member this year! G. Jaron has pulled some hours studying, studying, studying! Thankfully his hard work is paying off as he got into optometry school and will begin in spring 2026--just after his graduation from BYU-I!
Developed an allergy to apples and bananas! B. Okay, the apples one has been around a couple years--but now bananas?! Why can't we be allergic to things that are bad for us like chips and donuts?! Oh well, Jon has adjusted and avoided these two evil fruits. He turned 50 this year and celebrated with an epic motorcycle road trip along the CA central and northern coasts.
