Someone's paying attention....

My youngest child still takes naps. All of my kids have had the same nap routine: read a story, go to the bathroom, sing a song, say a prayer, then in to bed. I usually rock them or rub their backs when I sing. Today's melody was "Rock-a-bye Baby." I've probably sang it at least a thousand times over the last decade.

As I put my youngest into bed he turned to me and said, "Did the baby fall in the road?"

I thought, "What?!?!" A second later I realized he was referencing the song. I told him not to worry, the baby fell in the grass. ;).

LOL! I just love how kids think, this is good! Quick thinking with the grass idea ;)

I always did think that a violent song. :-) That's neat that he caught that.

I miss naptime. Now that they can entertain themselves I can take them again.

Ha ha ha. The first time I sang that song to my oldest I was suddenly struck with the lyrics of a baby falling out of a tree in a cradle. So I changed the lyrics to:
"Rock-a-bye baby in the treetop,
When the wind blows the cradle will rock,
Kisses and hugs all the night through,
Will come down from Angels straight to you."

A couple of years ago she heard the real song and said, "Mommy! Did you know there was a SECOND verse to that song?" :)

I miss naps.... My sister also changed the words to the last line. She sings "Mommy will catch you cradle and all."

It's funny how you'll sing a song a thousand times and then a child, who hasn't heard it nearly so often will notice more about it than you. Sharp kiddo!
