F is for FANATICS (and Fantasies)

Oh, how I love the Olympics! I am truly a fan of this mecca of sporting events. All the talk about Dara Torres and her age has really gotten me motivated. I hope that there never was nor never will be any performance-enhancing substances discovered. That would be sad. Okay, so, assuming she is clean (which is my hope!) aren't you just so excited about a 41-year-old competing in such a demanding sport as swimming? WOW!

One of my life-long dreams, since I was little, has been to compete in the Olympics. I played sports almost non-stop as a youth, and I've tried to stick with it in between pregnancies over the years. I had a few offers to play for some little colleges, but turned them all down to attend a larger school. My only regret was that I never tried out for their volleyball team.

My brother-in-law has been telling me I should shoot for 2012. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. No one has seem surprised when I mention this. So, aside from that....

I thought it would be nice to know-- assuming you are stellar-- what Summer Olympic sport would you love to be a competitor in and why? Post your comments now! I'm curious.

I'm silly. For a minute, I was thinking on the Tice side of the family "Which brother-in-law is that." I guess I would be the one to supply you with that, huh?!? I would like to do Field Hockey, since I always had fun with that sport.

Dana Torres has really been inspiring to me as well. It really helps me shed alot of the mental messages to myself that I'll never be able to be more fit than I was before I had kids. I want to prove myself wrong!

Hmmm... Assuming I was anywhere near competitive... what's the closest thing to dancing? Gymnastics, maybe? We saw an incredible couple swing dancing recently, and it really made me want to whip out my dancing shoes and practice up.

I've always loved Gymnastics! Even though I can only do a cartwheel...but that would be the sport I'd want to do!!

Well, if I were athletic and competitive, I would like to be on the soccer team. I didn't know they played field hockey at the Olympics, but I wouldn't mind that either. And this is all assuming I was good... :)

Oh, and the why part- I enjoy playing them a lot. I did a lot more in highschool, but I think I'd still enjoy it. Besides, I'm terrified of water, have two left feet, hate to run and can't hit a volleyball to safe my life. I think that would take out swimming, gymnastics, track and field and volleyball!:) I LOVE watching them, but playing them...? :)

I'd have to go with swimming or diving, not because I have ANY talent there, but because I wish I did.

What is it about that blog entry that makes it look so 3 dimensional. It was wierd. Anyway, I just love gymnastics--but I'm way too tall and scared (and now old) to do that. So I have the love there but little going for me.
I actually think I'd do best in wrestling--we had a unit on it in Phys Ed in jr high and I was pretty good. But the women wrestlers I saw all looked so angry and I find the whole thing disturbing. So I lack the love, but might have the talent.
So I guess that's why I'm not an olympian.

The marathoners amaze me. I watched the women's today and the winner was averaging a little over 5mins a mile. I think that's right. I would love to be able to do that. I feel good when I can run 10-11 min miles.
